Living
and Dining
Enter Mill Creek Farm’s
antique stone manor house through the red front
door, distinguished by handsome brass fittings.
The
center hall is flanked by two good size rooms:
the Library and the Drawing Room, each with an
inviting wood-burning fireplace and cosseting
love seats and armchairs. Behind the Drawing
Room is the original open-hearth Winter Kitchen
(1690s), now serving as the
inn’s office and reception desk.
Spanning
the back of the house is the grand dining room
(40 feet by 28 feet) with sky-lighted and beamed
ceiling, glazed brick floor and
a raised-hearth fireplace.
The room’s
entire exterior wall consists
of tall windows with a central pair of French doors
opening to the garden terrace. The creek and pond
are just beyond. House guests breakfasting here
(at tables set for two, three or four) are treated
to the calming vista of grazing horses and, seasonally,
wild geese, mallards, goshawks, blue heron, river otter,
wild turkey, muskrat, badger and, more rarely, fox.
The ambience
within the house is that of restrained elegance. The
decor and furnishings exude a casual
and inviting level of comfort. A guest from England
said, "The house fits me like my favorite pair of brogues." Another
said, "It recalls childhood memories of going to visit
grandmother’s country house." What different
but equally pleasant associations await you at the
relaxed and unplugged-by-design atmosphere at Mill
Creek Farm Bed & Breakfast?
